A Plan for a Plan, in 2023
Residents eager to see progress on the North Eastham Town Center project will have to wait until early 2023 for a visual mockup. That’s when the newly announced master plan will be completed, said Lauren Barker.
Barker, Eastham’s economic development planner, said on Monday that the town is now finalizing its request for proposals from consultants. “It’s a planning tool, but it’s more than that,” she said. A master plan will have budget projections and schedules, and it will show how buildings will be positioned at the former T-Time, the Town Center Plaza, and possibly the Council on Aging property.
“I know people may be frustrated by the wait, but we only have one shot,” Town Administrator Jacqui Beebe said at the select board meeting on Oct. 4. “The one-year interval is helpful because it gives us time to take care of our transit needs on Route 6 as well as our wastewater needs.”
Karen Strauss, chair of the T-Time Committee, agreed that a thorough process warranted the time. “We’ve already had the input from the community on what should go there,” she said.
“Now we want to make sure the how complements the what.”
Barker said that, after the town selects a firm, around December, there will be opportunities for the public to weigh in on the process. —Cam Blair
