Interim Superintendent Chosen
After a four-hour joint meeting of the Nauset school committees on April 12, Brooke Clenchy, 62, was named Nauset’s interim superintendent to replace Tom Conrad, who is retiring.
Clenchy was previously superintendent of the Nashoba Regional School District, the Ashland Public Schools, and Winchendon Public Schools. “I feel strongly that I have the skill set you need,” she said in her interview. “Regional school districts are different from single municipalities.”
She warned that, in the coming year, “we may find ourselves back to some sort of fully remote learning.” But she also said, in the past year, teachers have connected with students remotely in new ways. “I would like to see that translate to our classrooms,” she said. “I think we are on the cusp of something very new.”
Clenchy was asked about balancing the demands of the job. “I will speak for myself: my balance was lost this year,” she said, adding, “It doesn’t matter in a leadership position. The work has to get done.” —Saskia Maxwell Keller
