Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, March 9 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
Be on the lookout, Eastham: an early Osprey was spotted by several people on a nest at Cedar Pond in Orleans this week.
A Tufted Duck continues in Great Pond in Eastham this week.
A Northern Shrike was seen hunting birds at a feeder in Wellfleet, and 24 Evening Grosbeaks still continue at a feeder elsewhere in Wellfleet.
An early Piping Plover was at Herring Cove in Provincetown.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown included a Pacific Loon, 17 Common Murres, a Thick-Billed Murre, 200 Razorbills, 2 Black Guillemots, 8 Iceland Gulls, a Snowy Owl, a Short-Eared Owl, 5 Common Ravens, and a Northern Shrike.
