Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Feb. 16 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
In Eastham, a Tufted Duck was discovered in Great Pond this week. A male Painted Bunting has been visiting a feeder in town — he’s been there off and on since November. Also spotted were 58 Common Redpolls and at least one Baltimore Oriole.
Three Evening Grosbeaks were seen in Wellfleet.
There were 12 Red Crossbills in North Truro.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown included a Pacific Loon, 2 Dovekies, 11 Common Murres, 3 Thick-Billed Murres, 15 Iceland Gulls, and a Snowy Owl. Also, at least three North Atlantic Right Whales were seen from Race Point.
