Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Feb. 9 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
An Eared Grebe was discovered in Provincetown Harbor last week, where other sightings included a Purple Sandpiper, 4 Thick-Billed Murres, and a Peregrine Falcon watching them all from the Pilgrim Monument.
Sightings at Race Point included at least 2 Pacific Loons, an Atlantic Puffin, 3 Dovekies, 17 Common Murres, 548 Razorbills, a Black Guillemot, 102 Black-Legged Kittiwakes, a Northern Shrike, and, no, these are not birds, but at least two North Atlantic Right Whales.
There were 50 Common Redpolls at Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary, and, elsewhere in Wellfleet, 2 Rusty Blackbirds and 26 Evening Grosbeaks were reported.
Baltimore Orioles were seen in Eastham.
