Covid-19 Update
As of Sept. 9, Truro had one active case of Covid-19, 15 resolved cases, and no deaths.
A Town Manager Perhaps
The select board have another candidate to interview for the town manager job. His name is Darrin Tangeman, and he’s currently the city manager of Woodland Park, a Colorado town of about 8,200 people.
Tangeman was hired to lead Woodland Park in 2018 with a beginning salary of $125,000, according to the Mountain Jackpot News. He was previously the chief administrative officer of Pueblo West, Colorado, a job he started in 2015. A chief administrative officer is equivalent to a city manager in that particular form of government, according to Tangeman’s resume.
Prior to that, Tangeman was a U.S. Army Special Forces Officer — a Green Beret — for 11 years.
In his resume, Tangeman wrote that he “led a complex and politically sensitive international mission to capture Joseph Kony and counter [Kony’s] Lord’s Resistance Army in a region spanning four Central African governments and requiring coordination with four U.S. embassies.”
He is the fourth contender for the position of Truro town manager, after two of three finalists dropped out, and the majority of the select board did not want to hire the third.
If Tangeman and the select board cannot reach an agreement, the select board will need to create a new screening committee and draw out a new pool of candidates. Already officials have reviewed about 80 resumes since the current town manager, Rae Ann Palmer, announced her retirement last fall.
Beginning Sept. 17, there will be a whirlwind of interviews with Tangeman, who did not return an email seeking comment. A virtual community forum to meet him is set for 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18.
At deadline, the select board was still finalizing a time to interview him on Monday, Sept. 21. They will deliberate before their regularly scheduled meeting and possibly vote on a job offer on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Check the town website for meeting times. —K.C. Myers
