Covid 19 Update
As of July 20, Wellfleet had zero active cases, seven cleared cases, and one death as a result of the coronavirus.
Listening Ear Up and Running
Wellfleet has established a mental health “warm line” for residents who are experiencing challenges with their mental health and need someone to talk to. The phone number for the line is 508-514-1633. It is not staffed by professionals but rather by volunteers from the community who can serve as a listening ear for anyone who is struggling and needs a neighbor to talk to. Wellfleet Police Chief Mike Hurley, who helped set up the line along with Dennis Cunningham and other residents, said, “There is always year-round concern about mental health, but since Covid hit, it has really spiked.
“This summer, our department has been overwhelmed with these [mental health calls],” Hurley added.
New Covid Educator-Enforcer
The health dept. has taken on a new “Covid education and enforcement” agent. The new employee will visit ponds, beaches, and town recreation areas a few days a week to distribute masks and enforce social distancing and mask-wearing regulations if necessary, according to Health Agent Hillary Greenberg-Lemos. —Devin Sean Martin
