Covid-19 Update
As of June 1, 2020, Provincetown had zero confirmed active cases of coronavirus, one death from complications related to Covid-19, and 28 additional cases considered recovered.
New Diversity Committee
After a dramatic week of national turmoil over Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s killing of a black man, George Floyd, the select board on June 1 elected to form an Equity and Inclusion Working Group. The group, which will be appointed by Town Manager Robin Craver, will try to do outreach with the Jamaican, “Latinx” (which the select board considers the preferred term for referring in gender-neutral terms to Latina or Latino people), and other marginalized communities that live or work in Provincetown.
Select board member Louise Venden said these communities are not easy to engage. Yet there is not a landscaping crew, construction company, restaurant, or hotel that doesn’t employ them. “These people are essential to the community and yet they are invisible,” Venden said. —K.C. Myers
