Venus, the planet of pleasure and beauty, floats freely through humanitarian Aquarius this month. What that means is that, while romance is certainly afoot, the overall feeling of love will be more universal in its expression.
St. Valentine was a third-century Roman priest whose story would be romanticized and embellished throughout the Middle Ages, alongside the flourishing of courtly love. The exchange of gifts began in the 18th century and the rest, as they say, is mass-produced history.
It is in the original mission of St. Valentine — universal love — that we might find inspiration this time around. With Venus’s grace and Aquarius’s idealism blending celestially, our own mission here on Earth should be equally golden in its measure. So, as you pass out cute cards and candy hearts, remember the golden rule: Love your neighbor as yourself. And love your lovers just the same — but buy them dinner and nice things because they have to put up with you. —Stefan Piscitelli
