Waterskiing on the Warrant
Eastham’s select board will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 5 at 5:30 p.m. to consider proposed changes to boating bylaws.
Among the proposed changes are a reduction of hours for waterskiing and towing on Great Pond (the only freshwater pond in town that allows waterskiing). The current allowed hours of 7 a.m. to one half hour before sunset would change to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or one-half hour before sunset, whichever is earlier. The current restriction of waterskiing to even-numbered days remained unchanged in the proposal.
Violations of the boating bylaws would be subject to stricter penalties beyond fines, including the automatic loss of any or all town permits (such as those for shellfishing, launches, moorings, and vessel storage) for one year from the date of the violation.
According to Town Administrator Jacqui Beebe, if there are changes that need to be made because of public comment at the April 5 meeting, the proposal may come back before the board at its next meeting. Otherwise, the board will vote on accepting and placing the proposal on the town meeting warrant.
Eastham, Summer and Fall
The Eastham Visitors Services Board is calling on Eastham residents to leave their artistic mark on the town. The board is holding a contest to select artwork or photo images of Eastham to be used on two new seasonal town banners, one depicting summer, the other fall, to be hung along Brackett and Samoset roads.
The board will select the winning summer and fall images for reproduction.
Images should be able to be cropped to 30 by 60 inches, and be simple in design with high contrast, to allow them to be seen from passing cars.
For more information or to send an entry, contact Jim Russo at [email protected].
The submission deadlines are April 23 for the summer image and June 25 for the fall image. —Linda Culhane
