Covid-19 Update
As of Jan. 22, Truro had nine active cases of Covid-19, according to the town website. The town has had 31 total cases, according to the state Dept. of Public Health’s Jan. 19 report. There were no deaths reported by the state or the town attributed to Covid-19.
Town Manager Issues Resolved
New Town Manager Darrin Tangeman began work on Jan. 4 after signing a three-year contract with an annual salary of $172,000, with up to $10,000 as a one-time payment for moving expenses.
The select board held executive (closed-door) sessions on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14 related to Tangeman’s contract, according to the posted notices.
On Jan. 4, the Independent asked Tangeman if the high cost of real estate led him back to the select board. His response, by email on Jan. 6: “On the topic of real estate, I would encourage you to reach out to local real estate agents in the local area who can provide some statistics on the most recent market changes in Cape Cod real estate. I think you will find that the housing inventory is at all-time lows and housing prices are at all-time highs. If you look at the trends over the last three months you might be surprised at the unsustainable trajectory.”
Notwithstanding Tangeman’s real estate reality check, it seems that nothing changed as a result of those meetings. Tangeman stated Jan. 26 by email: “No action was taken by the select board and none will be taken related to those executive sessions.”
Asked if the meetings were about housing, “It was not related to housing,” he wrote.
