Covid-19 Update
As of Jan. 9, Provincetown had seven active cases of Covid-19. The town has reported 60 total cases and one death from the virus.
20th Century Fox Is Coming
The select board said yes on Jan. 11 to allowing Acting Town Administrator Charlie Sumner to finalize a location agreement with 20th Century Fox to bring what’s widely reported to be American Horror Story’s cast and crew to Provincetown from Feb. 1 to March 6. With a crew of about 100 (and a potentially star-studded cast), they’ll be filming at several locations with a base camp at Riley’s parking lot off Bradford Street. Shooting locations on various days include Bradford, Gosnold, and Standish streets, the Pilgrim Monument, Commercial, Tremont, Nickerson, and Tremont streets, the breakwater in the West End, Howland Street, Old Colony Path, Race Point Beach, Route 6, Berry Lane, and others, according to the application submitted to the town by the producers. The filming locations are spelled out in the application, though many details are still being finalized, Sumner said.
Any filming on private property would be negotiated with the property owners, Sumner said.
While there is no official confirmation that this crew is coming to film season 10 of the popular series, writer and creator Ryan Murphy has a home here, at 27 Commercial Street.
And the show is titled Pilgrim, according to 20th Century Fox.
In case you have any doubt that it’s American Horror Story, “Bleeding Cool,” a website for news about American Horror Story and 15 other programs, says that it is.
Bleeding Cool writer Ray Flook studied the posts by Murphy on Instagram for clues on that show’s content. Based on his research, he wrote, it could be about or related to the “lady in the dunes,” the unsolved mystery of a woman’s body found in the Province Lands dunes in 1974, or he “could be teasing a water-based menace.”
Stay tuned. The final licensing agreement will include how much money the studio will pay Provincetown for police, DPW, parking, and other associated costs.
Lise King of the select board said the film “is getting press already and I fully expect we’ll get looky-loos,” she said. “So we should really anticipate people coming here to look at this. This show has a tremendous following.”
Sumner said crowd control will be a big part of the negotiations for the location agreement.
