The UU’s Little Pantry
Free food is in the house — the UU Meeting House, that is.
The Unitarian Universalist Church, along with the Provincetown Covid-19 Task Force, opened a new Little Free Pantry on Dec. 18.
The pantry is located in an unlocked building on the church grounds at 236 Commercial St. (to the right of the Meeting House door) and is stocked with nonperishable food items, toilet paper, masks, and sanitizer.
No registration or affiliation with the church is required. Anyone can use it for free, according to the Rev. Kate Wilkinson of the UU Meeting House.
The little pantry was founded with donations from church members. The town’s Covid task force gave $1,000 to the pantry as well as masks, said Lise King, one of its members.
Organizers of this pantry have been especially careful to include healthy options, as well as food that’s easy for homeless community members to use (such as soups with pull tops rather than cans requiring an opener).
Donations of nonperishable food items can be delivered to the UU Meeting House during office hours (Monday-Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Financial donations are also welcome (checks made out to the UUMH with “Little Free Pantry” in the memo line).
For emotional support, the Provincetown Covid-19 Task Force also offers a support telephone line at 508-309-5848, staffed from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily, and a weekly Zoom support group every Friday at 3 p.m. (Zoom code 482526637). To volunteer or ask questions, email [email protected].
