Covid-19 Update
As of Dec. 6, Truro had two active cases of Covid-19, 18 cases that are considered resolved, and no deaths.
Planning Board Member Can Be Appointed
Karen Tosh resigned from the planning board last week, before her term expires in 2021. She would say only that she left “for personal reasons.”
Truro’s planning board is an elected body, but replacement of committee members who resign midterm is done by appointment, said Anne Greenbaum, the board chair. That is, according to state law, “unexpired terms shall be filled by appointment by the board of selectmen and the remainder of the members of the planning board until the next election, at which time, such office shall be filled, by election, for the remainder of the unexpired term.”
In this case, the select board and the planning board can jointly appointment someone to take Tosh’s place until the next town election in May, at which point citizens can run for the seat, said Chris Lucy, a member of the charter review committee.
Since Peter Herridge has stated he will not run for re-election to the planning board in 2021, after being censured by the select board for statements he made about the town manager and developer of an affordable housing project, there will be at least two openings on the planning board this spring.
