‘You Are Here’ at Gallery 444 

Born in Wales, Siân Robertson is a self-taught artist who uses maps and atlases to create collages and assemblages. “You Are Here” is her new exhibition at Gallery 444, 444 Commercial St. in Provincetown, open now through Wednesday, July 21st.

By layering and cutting away maps, Robertson creates visual verbs that connect back to memory — navigating maps becomes a metaphor for navigating our lives. “I have incredibly fond memories of learning to map read when I was very young,” says Robertson on her website. “Now, as an adult, and living on a different continent from where I grew up, maps make the world seem smaller and give me a physical and emotional connection to another time and place.”
