‘Provincetown Printers’ at Bakker Gallery
Aug 13, 2021 | 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Bakker Gallery will host a show of “Provincetown Printers” opening Friday, Aug. 13 and running through Sept. 6. The “Provincetown print” is a unique woodcut tradition developed in 1915 and still practiced today. Also known as a white-line print, it uses a single block of wood with a distinctive line that runs through it to separate the colors. Early proponents of the technique on display include Mildred McMillen, Maud Squire, Ferol Warthen, and Agnes Weinrich. More contemporary artists include Lennie Alickman, Kathryn Baltivik, Sally Brophy, Kathyrn Lee Smith, and Barbara Stoughton. The gallery, located at 359 Commercial St. in Provincetown, is open Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, noon to 5 p.m.; Friday, 2 to 8 p.m.
