Pete Hocking, the Heartbreaker

“Leaving Broken Hearts Behind,” a show of new painting by Pete Hocking, opens at Four Eleven Gallery, 411 Commercial St. in Provincetown, on Friday, Aug. 27 and runs through Sept. 9.

Hocking remains a bit of a magician when it comes to depicting the Outer Cape landscape through precisely measured and perfectly articulated tracts of paint. Step in close and his canvases dissolve; step back and take in the relaxing balm of the scene. “I don’t want to be blinded by things over which I have no control,” says Hocking in a press release. “I want to live in radical amazement of what’s before me. I want my paintings to be instigated by joy.” There will be an opening reception on Friday, Aug. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m.
