Group Show at Rice Polak Gallery
Aug 19, 2021

Opening at the Rice Polak Gallery, 430 Commercial St. in Provincetown, on Thursday, Aug. 19 and running through Sept. 1 is a show of works by painters Olga Antonova, Larry Calkins, Lisbeth Firmin, and Sandra Pratt. There will be a reception on Friday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.
Olga Antonova’s costumed self-portraits and refined paintings of stacked cups and cards are full of understated humor. Larry Calkins’s paintings of Abraham Lincoln, rendered in an authentic naïve style, form a heroic, personal narrative, while his sculptures of clothing made from wax-covered cloth and paper are haunting repositories of the past. Lisbeth Firmin paints the everyday moments we barely notice — people on a bench or walking down the street — in a way that makes us see them anew. Sandra Pratt paints the façades of lone houses that bind and fuse with remote landscapes in a marriage of dense paint.
