Florence Brillinger at Bakker Gallery
May 5, 2021 | 10:00 am - May 9, 2021 | 10:00 am

Florence Brillinger, a little-known Pennsylvania-born artist who exhibited at the Provincetown Art Association in the 1920s and ’30s, is the subject of a virtual show at the Bakker Gallery. It is viewable at artsy.net through Sunday, May 9th.
The show focuses on a series that Brillinger painted in 1939. This was the year that the American Artists’ Congress, an alliance of the Communist Party, of which Brillinger was a member, brought Picasso’s Guernica to the U.S. According to the description, Brillinger’s “socialist influence” can be seen in the “fine details” of the abstract mixed media works.
