Dressler and Christie at Alden Gallery
Aug 20, 2021
Paintings by Joerg Dressler and sculptures by Ed Christie will be on view at Alden Gallery, 423 Commercial St. in Provincetown, from Friday, Aug. 20 through Sept. 2. There will be an opening night reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Dressler continues the forward momentum of his artistic career with a riveting fusion of realism and abstraction. Nature remains the central theme, but he fractures reality with bouts of hard-edged geometry and imagery overlaid like photographs in a scrapbook.
Christie is a veteran puppet designer who worked on Sesame Street for 30 years, helping create some of its most memorable characters. He’s showing new wall sculptures based on the “Ricky” character he created in 2009, as well as sculptures made of resin fused with dryer lint. The resulting material is not unlike stone, which he turns into abstract forms reminiscent of Brancusi. “I’m creating a mash-up of two of my obsessions — classic European sculpture and whimsical character design,” says Christie in a press release.
