EASTHAM — The Nauset High boys track team placed fifth overall at the MIAA Division 4 Track and Field State Championship hosted by Westfield State University last weekend. The girls team came in 14th.
The boys had a team score of 36. Wakefield Memorial (78.5) won, followed by Burlington (75.5) and Pembroke (73). Ludlow (38) narrowly beat the Warriors for fourth.
The girls from Nashoba Regional secured the team title with 68.5 points. Holliston (60) and Pembroke (59) rounded out the podium.
Senior Damian Bebber was third in the 400 meters with a time of 50.91 seconds. He was just 0.46 seconds off the winning time of Wilmington junior Ashvin Baker.
Junior Aidan Brown qualified for the 100-meter finals with the sixth best time. He finished eighth overall in 11.78 seconds. Brown and classmate Isaiah Robinson finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles.
Bebber, Robinson, Brown, and senior Paytah Dill were third in the 4×100 relay with a time of 43.92 seconds. Pembroke won the race, followed by Wakefield Memorial.
Dill had a strong showing in the pentathlon, finishing sixth overall with a score of 2,741, including winning the long jump. He placed sixth in the individual long jump event with a distance of 21’1”. It was a foot short of the winning jump by Burlington sophomore Ryan Brooks.
Junior Peter Silvernail was fifth in the shot put (46’10½”) and came 13th in the discus.
Junior Rihanna Sutherland finished sixth in the 100 meters to go with eighth place in the 200 meters.
Sophomore Violet Roche also had a sixth-place finish for the Warriors in the 400 meters. Roche took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 35’10” and finished in a four-way tie for seventh in the high jump at five feet.
Junior Madeline Mahoney was sixth in the one-mile with a time of 5:14.97, 2 seconds shy of her season best.
Senior Elizabeth Mayer was fifth in the discus with a throw of 100’8” while junior Adrianna Morgan was eighth at 97’5”.
Away from the track, boys lacrosse beat Martha’s Vineyard 17-5 on Senior Day to close out the regular season. They won three of their final five games after a tough stretch of six losses in seven games to end the year with a 9-9 record and a sixth-place ranking.
Nauset softball held on for a 9-8 win over Sturgis East at Lopes Field on Friday to make it three straight victories. Their game against Upper Cape Cod Tech last Thursday was postponed.
The sailing team’s regatta against Martha’s Vineyard Regional last Thursday was canceled due to weather.
Girls tennis, ranked no 31, was to play no. 34 Whitinsville Christian in a MIAA Division 3 State Tournament preliminary round match on Wednesday, while no. 22 boys tennis drew no. 11 Wakefield Memorial in the Round of 32.
Girls lacrosse, which lost three straight games before ending the year by winning three of their last five, moved up to 10th in the power rankings, while baseball slipped from 15th to 20th with a 14-6 record. The baseball team dropped its last two games of the season.
The state tournament brackets for baseball and boys and girls lacrosse were to be released on Wednesday.
