EASTHAM — The Nauset boys and girls track teams placed second and third, respectively, at the Cape and Islands League Championship at Barnstable High School on Monday.
Barnstable won the boys championship with a combined score of 154 points; the Warriors had 132. Dennis-Yarmouth was a distant third with 67.
The Warrior girls compiled 115.5 points but finished behind Dennis-Yarmouth (159) and Barnstable (120.5).
Juniors Aiden Brown and Isaiah Robinson finished first and second in the 110-meter hurdles. Brown clipped his teammate by one-hundredth of a second with a time of 15.26. Senior Paytah Dill placed fourth.
Brown added a second place in the 100-meter dash in 11.04 seconds, 0.24 behind winner freshman Alique Brown of Monomoy Regional.
Robinson raced to victory in the 400-meter hurdles ahead of Sturgis West senior Dylan Moreno with a time of 59.91. He then took first in the triple jump, with the Warriors sweeping first and second and sophomore Dominic Bebber placing fourth.
Junior Peter Silvernail won the shot put with a toss of 46’1” and placed third in the discus.
Junior Rihanna Sutherland placed second in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. She took third in the long jump with a leap of 15’2”.
Sophomore Violet Roche placed first in the triple jump with a mammoth effort of 35’11½”. It was over two feet longer than the second place winner’s. Roche was runner-up in the 400 meters and high jump.
The Warriors had three runners in the top five of the 100-meter hurdles, with seniors Haley Labdon and Mackenzie Still coming in second and third while sophomore Anika Valli finished fifth.
Senior Elizabeth Mayer earned third place in the shot put with a throw of 30’5”. Mayer (95’) and junior Adrianna Morgan (93’11”) came in second and third in the discus.
Baseball ended its regular season schedule with back-to-back defeats, losing 6-3 to Barnstable and 11-7 to Bishop Stang. A 14-6 record means a possible home game in the Round of 32 in the state tournament. They are currently 15th in the rankings.
Softball won back-to-back games for the second time this season with two victories over Nantucket, 27-17 and 25-16. The team is 6-12 with two games remaining.
Girls lacrosse is currently ranked 12th at 10-7. The Warriors picked up an emphatic 15-4 win over Barnstable last Thursday on Senior Night before falling 21-11 to Sandwich on Friday. They crushed Dennis-Yarmouth 17-0 on Tuesday to end the regular season.
Boys lacrosse edged Barnstable 7-6 last Thursday behind a hat trick from junior Joey Berardi. Classmate Logan Poulin scored twice, while senior Ryder Holm had a goal and an assist. The team stands at 8-9, in sixth position in the rankings.
Boys tennis beat Dennis-Yarmouth 3-2 on Friday, then swept St. John Paul II 5-0 on Tuesday. The Warriors are 11-5 and are ranked 22nd.
Girls tennis went 1-3 last week to slip to 7-9 record and will await their postseason fate after falling to 33rd.
