EASTHAM — Nauset sophomore Violet Roche took home the MSTCA Outstanding Field Event Athlete from Saturday’s Jim Hoar Freshman Sophomore Invitational at Weymouth. Roche won the high jump with a height of 5’0” and then placed second in both the triple jump and 400-meter dash.
Roche’s triple jump distance, 34’7¼”, was topped by freshman Blake MacNeal of Newton North at 34’9”.
Eighth-grader Kerri Clark of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional, meanwhile, crossed the finish line ahead of Roche in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.91. Roche came in at 1:01.08.
Sophomore Reed Dill placed fifth in the long jump at 18’11¼”; he narrowly missed a spot on the podium in the 400-meter hurdles with a fourth-place time of 1:02.10.
Freshman duo Ethan Koufos and Evan Melano both set personal records in their respective events. Koufos posted a time of 10:53.52 — a full 22 seconds better than his previous best — in the 2-mile race, finishing 13th overall, while Melano ran the 110-meter hurdles in 18.73 seconds in the preliminary round.
Sophomore Xavier Andrulot ran the 100-meter dash in 12.42 in the preliminary round.
Sophomore Anika Valli finished eighth in the javelin throw with a distance of 77’7”. She ran the 100-meter hurdles in 19 seconds flat in the preliminary round but failed to advance to the finals.
Sophomore Liz Sanders came in 16th in the high jump with a height of 4’6”.
The undefeated boys and girls track teams competed against Dennis-Yarmouth on Tuesday.
Nauset softball won back-to-back games for the first time this season, beating Sturgis East 12-9 at home on Friday to improve to 4-6. Eighth-grader Brynn Kew pitched five innings and recorded 10 strikeouts.
But the Warriors couldn’t make it three in a row, falling 13-0 to Wareham on Monday. They played Dennis-Yarmouth on Wednesday. The team’s winning percentage will likely need to be .500 or better for them to reach the postseason.
Girls golf went 2-1 with back-to-back wins over Dennis-Yarmouth and Falmouth. Their lone defeat was a 4-2 loss to unbeaten Monomoy Regional last Thursday.
The Warriors (5-4) rebounded with a 6-0 sweep of the Dolphins before picking up a wild victory over the Clippers in a match that was decided by the eighth pairing on course.
Baseball split a pair of games ahead of a Wednesday game against Dennis-Yarmouth. The Warriors (10-4) lost 4-3 at Fairhaven last Thursday but blanked Wareham 10-0 on Tuesday to end a three-game losing streak.
The Warrior girls tennis team made it three consecutive wins with a 5-0 victory over Barnstable on Friday. But the streak ended in a 5-0 loss to Wareham on Monday. The Warriors played Falmouth on Wednesday.
Boys tennis dropped a 3-2 decision at Barnstable on Friday, but bounced back with a 4-1 win over Wareham on Monday ahead of a trip to Falmouth on Wednesday.
After notching back-to-back wins, girls lacrosse was on the wrong end of a pair of defeats, falling to 7-5 on the season. The Warriors lost 12-11 at St. John Paul II on Friday before their fourth-quarter comeback fell short in a 17-13 defeat at Cape Cod Academy on Tuesday.
Boys lacrosse, with one win in the last six games, was beaten 6-5 at Bridgewater-Raynham on Friday. The Warriors are now 6-6 on the season.
Co-ed sailing took to the water at Wianno Yacht Club on Tuesday, where they lost 4-1 to Cape Cod Academy to drop to 4-2.
