EASTHAM — Eleven teams in eight varsity sports warm up this week for the Nauset Regional spring sports season.
Baseball starts with a new coach for the second time in as many seasons following the departure of Doug Mason. The Warriors, who went 7-11 last spring, will be led by longtime junior varsity coach Brett Labonte.
The team graduated eight seniors last year, and now senior pitcher Chase Beach hopes to lead the Warriors back to the Cape and Islands League crown alongside classmates Evan Archer, Devin Farrell, Kieran Handville, Andrew Dinnan, Paul Alves, and Ethan Beer. All have seen extended time on the field in their varsity careers.
Boys lacrosse looks to win a third consecutive Cape and Islands Atlantic Division championship. They posted a 7-1 record in league play and a 17-3 record overall but were upended in the Division 2 State Tournament Round of 16 in 2023.
With seven players having graduated, Head Coach Jesse Peno will lean this year on seniors Ryder Holm, Logan Daniels-Julien, and Riley Meehan as he targets a deeper run in the state tournament.
Girls lacrosse took a big step forward last season, improving their record by seven wins with an 11-8 mark and a spot in the state tournament for the first time since 2019.
The team returns without five graduates but has a strong core including seniors Coral Punch, Sienna Reeves, Ali Hawk, Cate Miltimore, and Gaby Foster, juniors Zoe Labdon and Abby Powers, and sophomore Julia Kipperman.
Softball will look to bottle some of their success from 2023, despite the loss of a strong senior class.
Boys and girls tennis are both coming off post-season berths, with the boys having reached the Round of 16, ending the year with a 15-3 record. Coach Andy Lisle, however, will be looking for a new number one following the graduation of Rufus McCleery.
Girls tennis went 9-8 last season with the team’s number one Nicole Boyce back for her senior campaign.
Boys and girls track return key runners for the outdoor season from teams that went 7-0 and 6-1, respectively.
Juniors Madeline Mahoney and Rhianna Sutherland and sophomore Violet Roche had strong indoor campaigns, while freshman Ava Dragon broke onto the scene.
The boys indoor team went undefeated, led by seniors Paytah Dill and Damian Bebber, juniors Isiah Robinson, Aidan Brown and Dominic Bebber, and sophomore Reed Dill.
Girls golf aims to bounce back from a 2-8 record a season ago. They are bolstered by the return of junior Sophie Sullivan, who finished 13th at the South Sectionals in 2023, seniors Audrey Jones and Bella Roberts, and freshman Sophie Silvestri.
