EASTHAM — Nauset indoor track had a strong showing at the MSTCA Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Sunday, highlighting a busy week for Warriors sports.
Junior Madeline Mahoney won the 1,000 meters in 3:03.57. Sophomore Violet Roche finished third in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches and seventh in the 300 meters with a personal best 41.84. She also finished eighth in the long jump after making the finals.
Senior Damian Better finished fourth in the 300 meters with a personal best time of 36.18 seconds, and junior Isaiah Robinson was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 7.98 seconds.
Nauset swimming racked up a slew of medals at the Cape and Islands Championships hosted by Sandwich High School on Saturday. The Warriors boys and girls teams both finished second overall. The boys team score of 307 was bested by Martha’s Vineyard’s 326, while the girls (324) were edged by Nantucket (351) for the top spot.
The boys and girls relay teams swept the 400-yard freestyle relays and they both placed second in the 200-yard medley relays.
Senior Izzy Hardwicke, who was part of the first- and second-place relay teams, followed up her victory in the girls 50-yard freestyle in 25.87 seconds with a first-place finish in the girls 100-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Laura Kaser took first place in the girls 100-yard butterfly in 1:12.16 and a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. She swam in the medley relay and freestyle relay teams.
Senior Nina Mako and junior Isabel Colella placed first and second, respectively, in the girls 100-yard backstroke. Mako won the event in 1:03.01, which was two-and-a-half seconds faster than her teammate.
Senior Will Crowell placed first in the boys 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.89. He was also part of the boys medley relay and freestyle relay teams.
Eighth-grader Thomas Olean won the boys 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.57, while senior Tom Foley placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Girls swimming defeated Sandwich 103-66, while the boys team lost 82-76 to the Blue Knights on Tuesday in their final dual meet of the season. Hardwicke and Kaser qualified for sectionals in the 200 free and 200 individual medley, respectively.
Crowell qualified for states in the 100 butterfly.
Nauset-Monomoy girls hockey extended their unbeaten run to 12 games with an emphatic 14-0 drubbing of Nantucket on Saturday. Senior defenseman Sienna Reeves and sophomore Gaby Bassett both surpassed 100 career points in the win.
The Warriors are 12-1-1 on the year and currently third in the MIAA Division 2 power rankings.
The top-ranked team in Division 3, the Nauset boys hockey team, easily swept aside Old Rochester Regional 6-0 on Monday for their eighth straight win.
Junior Logan Poulin recorded two goals and an assist, freshman Sam Mayhew scored twice for his first varsity goals, and junior Matthew Swanson posted the shutout for the Warriors (11-1-1).
Nauset led 2-0 after the first period behind short-handed goals from senior Aaron Howard and Poulin. Junior Colin Ward made it 3-0 before the Warriors exploded for three goals in the third period.
Nauset boys basketball beat Dennis-Yarmouth 63-61 on Friday to end a five-game losing streak before upending Falmouth 57-53 on the road in overtime on Tuesday. They moved to 5-8 on the season.
The Warriors girls basketball team went 0-2 during the week, falling to Dennis-Yarmouth last Thursday and Falmouth on Tuesday. They dropped to 6-8 on the season.
