EASTHAM — The Nauset High golf team won its fifth and sixth straight matches this week to improve to 7-1, beating Cape Cod Academy 250-265 on Monday at Wianno Club in Osterville and Dennis-Yarmouth Regional 247-300 on Tuesday at Captains Golf Course.
The Warriors moved within one win of locking up a postseason berth.
Junior Jack Martin led with a 2-over 38 against the Seahawks. Senior Sean Kipperman and junior Fin Mayhew both shot 41, and sophomore Zach Weiner and junior Jake Everson each posted a 42.
Martin had the low round of 39 on Tuesday against the Dolphins. Sophomore Chris Ross contributed a 40 and Matthew Breda and Logan Miller each shot 43.
Martin, meanwhile, tied for 24th at the Cape Cod High School Invitational on Sunday in Brewster. The golfers battled persistent rain and high winds. Bishop Stang senior Matthew Costello was individual champion with a 1-over 73, while St. John’s Prep won the team championship.
Boys soccer (5-1) defeated Sturgis West 6-0 last Thursday behind a hat trick from sophomore Omari Perry but fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 4-2 loss at Nantucket on Tuesday.
Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Jackson recorded her fourth consecutive clean sheet this week, as the Nauset girls soccer team beat Sturgis West 6-0 on Thursday and now stand at 5-1 on the season after demolishing Nantucket 11-0 on Tuesday.
The boys game at New Bedford set for Saturday was postponed to Oct. 14, while the girls match at home against Newton South was moved to Oct. 21.
For the second time this season, Nauset field hockey narrowly lost to St. John Paul II, 1-0. The Warriors, who played Monomoy Regional High School on Wednesday, dropped below .500 at 2-3-1.
North Middlesex Regional beat Nauset’s football squad 35-8 on Saturday. The Warriors are 0-3 on the season.
