EASTHAM — Hot weather disrupted the Nauset sports schedule last week with boys and girls soccer games postponed. The boys golf team split a pair of matches and stands at 2-1 on the season.
For a second straight match, junior Jack Martin carded a 2-over 38, but Nauset fell to St. John Paul II at Captains Golf Course on Monday. The Lions edged the Warriors 241-248, led by Sam Scioletti’s 1-over 37 and a pair of 38s by Jack Carstensen and Timmy Adams. Nauset sophomore Max St. Aubin shot 40.
The Warriors then upended a hot Barnstable High School squad behind Martin’s even-par 36 on Tuesday in a 248-253 win at Captains. St. Aubin carded another 40, while senior Sean Kipperman shot 41. Chad Tordone led the Red Hawks with a 36.
Nauset football opened its season with a 40-15 defeat at home against Norwell on Friday. Sophomore quarterback Brendan Peno threw two touchdowns — one to junior Isaiah Robinson and one to senior Kieran Handville. Robinson and sophomore Owen White each had interceptions.
Norwell took a 14-0 lead on a 20-yard touchdown run by the quarterback and a 27-yard touchdown pass. But the Warriors cut the deficit to 14-7 with 2:39 to go in the half. The Clippers scored 30 seconds later to take a 21-7 advantage into halftime.
Norwell extended its lead to 34-7 after three quarters of action before Peno threw his second touchdown of the game. But the Clippers’ advantage was insurmountable.
The boys soccer game against Bridgewater-Raynham scheduled for Sept. 7 was postponed to Sept. 30, while the girls game was moved to Oct. 13. The boys, however, advanced to 2-0 with a 3-0 win at St. John Paul II on Tuesday. Senior Charlie Cushing scored a brace while sophomore Omari Perry added the third goal.
Girls soccer had their Monday trip to Bishop Feehan moved to Tuesday due to inclement weather. The team suffered a 6-0 loss in the rescheduled match.
Field hockey dropped a 1-0 decision against St. John Paul II at Barnstable High School on Friday night to fall to 1-1 on the season. The Warriors were scheduled to play at Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday.
Nauset volleyball remained winless on the season after falling 3-0 at St. John Paul on Monday night. They were to play Sturgis East Charter School on Wednesday.
