EASTHAM — Nauset boys track finished the season undefeated to claim the league championship, while the boys tennis team notched its fifth straight win during a busy week for Warrior sports.
The track boys edged Dennis-Yarmouth 71-64 on Tuesday to conclude the regular season with a 7-0 record. The girls team lost its last meet of the year by a score of 94-42 to come in second in the league. The Cape and Islands track championships are on Monday at Monomoy.
The teams had a strong showing at the MSTCA Twilight Invitational hosted by Foxboro High School last Friday. Junior Damian Bebber won the 400 meters with a record time of 50.67 seconds. He came in sixth in the 200-meter dash with a personal best 22.86. Sophomore Isaiah Robinson set personal records in the 110-meter hurdles and triple jump with a jump of 40 feet 11½ inches, placing fifth and eight respectively.
Freshman Violet Roche broke the school triple jump record with a jump of 36 feet 1½ inches, which was good for fifth in the event. She placed second in the 400 meters at 59.87 seconds. Sophomore Aidan Brown placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.08 seconds.
The Warriors boys tennis team, which is currently 15th in the MIAA Division 2 power rankings, beat Dennis-Yarmouth 4-1 last Thursday before sweeping all five matches in a road win at Wareham on Monday. They improved to 10-1 on the season ahead of Wednesday’s match against Barnstable and four more contests in the regular season.
Nauset girls lacrosse won back-to-back games to improve to 8-5 on the year, with a matchup at Barnstable Tuesday. Junior duo Sienna Reeves (five goals) and Coral Punch (four goals) combined to lead the Warriors to a season sweep of Cape Cod Academy on Thursday, following a 13-10 win at home.
Freshman Julia Kipperman then scored five goals of her own for the Warriors in a 14-0 win at Dennis-Yarmouth on Saturday.
Nauset baseball exploded for an 11-2 win over Dennis-Yarmouth to make it three wins in a row. Senior Jack Cronan went the distance for the Warriors, who broke a 3-2 game wide open with eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings. But they saw their streak end with a 2-0 loss at Bishop Stang on Saturday morning. The Warriors hosted Barnstable on Wednesday.
Boys lacrosse lost their first game since April 18, ending a seven-game winning streak when Division I Marshfield defeated the Warriors 19-7 on Friday night. Nauset, which fell to number three in the Division II power rankings, however, made an immediate return to the win column, beating Barnstable 18-9 on Tuesday to move to 12-3 overall.
Softball went 1-1 in the first two games of a three-game week. They dropped an 8-6 decision at home to Dennis-Yarmouth on Friday but bounced back with an 18-3 win over Cape Cod Tech in a shortened five-inning game on Monday. They played Barnstable on Wednesday.
No. 36 ranked girls tennis remained in the hunt for a postseason birth in Division II after splitting two matches. The Warriors, 7-6 on the season, blanked Dennis-Yarmouth 5-0 on Friday, but dropped a 3-2 match against Wareham on Monday. They played Barnstable on Wednesday.
Girls golf suffered a tough 5.5-0.5 nonleague defeat to Falmouth at Falmouth Country Club on Monday.
The Warriors saw Thursday’s sailing regatta against Bishop Stang postponed. Nauset traveled to Pleasant Bay Community Boating for a race with Monomoy on Tuesday.
