EASTHAM — Nauset boys lacrosse climbed to the top spot in the MIAA Division 2 power rankings following dominant wins over Sandwich and Canton.
The Warriors defeated Sandwich 18-8 on Thursday with a strong third quarter. Seniors Andrew Berardi and Cooper McIntire scored five goals each and combined for a trio of assists, while classmate Quinn Mucha tallied a hat trick as Nauset avenged an overtime loss to the Blue Knights back on April 11.
Nauset then extended its win streak to six games with a 17-4 drubbing of Canton on the road on Saturday. Senior Payton Kender had a team-high four goals to go with 10 ground balls. Seniors Kevin Wright and Mucha each had hat tricks, and Berardi had five assists go with one goal.
The team was 10-2 on the season with five games remaining, including trips to Marshfield and Nantucket, a home-and-home series with Barnstable, and a home matchup with Hanover.
Nauset girls lacrosse lost 8-5 at Sandwich on Thursday. The Blue Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead before junior Sienna Reeves, who had two goals, and senior Bailey Nobili found the net for the Warriors. Sandwich then tallied three straight goals to make it 6-3, but Nauset fought back to get within two with 10 minutes left. Quinn Anderson’s third goal prevented a Warriors comeback.
Girls lacrosse had won four straight before dropping back-to-back games, putting the team at 6-4 on the season.
Nauset girls golf beat Dennis-Yarmouth 4-3 at Captains Golf Course on Thursday to win their sixth straight match. The Warriors are 6-1 overall.
Nauset coed sailing defeated Old Rochester Regional 3-2 on Thursday.
The Warriors baseball team ended an eight-game losing streak by blanking Sandwich 4-0 at Eldredge Park on Thursday. Chase Beach hit a two-run homer to help the cause as he went the distance on the mound for his first shutout of the season. The Warriors, 2-8 overall, traveled to Falmouth on Wednesday.
Nauset boys tennis rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 4-1 victory over Sandwich on Friday before holding off Bourne 3-2 on Monday. The Warriors are 7-1 on the season.
The girls tennis team stopped a two-game skid with a 3-2 win at Sandwich on Friday. They moved to 5-4 on the season and hosted Bourne and Falmouth on Monday and Wednesday.
Nauset softball split a pair of games during the week. They recorded a second comeback victory this season over Sandwich, 8-7, to rebound from Wednesday’s loss to Monomoy that ended their nine-game winning streak. The Warriors then fell 12-6 to Sturgis on Monday.
The Warriors led 1-0, but the Storm surged back to take a 10-run advantage through four innings. Senior cocaptain Jillian Parrott scored an inside-the-park home run to get Nauset within 12-6 but no closer.
Nauset boys and girls track were well represented at the MSTCA Freshman/Sophomore Track Meet on Saturday. Freshman Violet Roche placed second in the triple jump with a personal record of 34 feet 3.25 inches. She finished fourth in the 400 meters with a personal best 60.37 seconds.
Sophomore Aidan Brown came in fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and classmate Rihanna Sutherland also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a personal best of 26.65 seconds. She set a personal record in the long jump of 16 feet 1 inch.
Sophomore Peter Silvernail had his season-best throw of 110 feet 4 inches in the discus.
The two undefeated track teams had a dual meet against Sturgis East/West on Tuesday.
