EASTHAM — Nauset High teams are rapidly approaching postseason play as boys and girls hockey, boys basketball, and swimming are all jockeying for position in their respective leagues.
The boys hockey team rebounded from a 2-1 loss to Falmouth on Wednesday with back-to-back wins over Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday and Nantucket on Monday.
Freshman goalie Arthur Figueiredo posted his first varsity shutout in a 4-0 win over the Vineyarders on Senior Night. Senior co-captain Sam Weiner had a goal and an assist while classmates Cooper McIntire, Dan Deering, and Pete Murphy also recorded goals.
Nauset then snapped Nantucket’s 10-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory at Nantucket Ice Rink to sweep the season series. The Warriors led 3-0 before the Whalers scored with a minute remaining in the game to end Figueiredo’s bid for back-to-back shutouts.
The Warriors were 12-5 on the season with three games remaining. After climbing as high as second, the boys were ranked fifth in the most recent MIAA Division 3 power rankings.
Nauset girls swimming came in ninth with a combined score of 107 at the MIAA Division 2 Sectionals hosted by the Greater Beverly YMCA on Saturday. The boys, meanwhile, placed 14th with a team score of 61.
Senior Tim Johnson set a new school record of 1:47.11 in the 200-yard freestyle while junior Will Crowell had the fifth fastest time in school history. Johnson finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.94.
The Cape Cod Furies — the combined hockey team of Nauset, Monomoy, and Cape Cod Tech girls — split a pair of games during the week, capped by a win on Senior Night for the team’s lone senior, forward Emily Underhill, to improve to 10-7-1 on the season. The Furies have four wins in their last six games.
The Furies lost 3-1 at Falmouth on Saturday but bounced back with a convincing 6-1 win over Old Rochester Regional High School on Monday night.
After a scoreless first period, junior defenseman Sienna Reeves put the hosts ahead 30 seconds into the second. Freshman forward Morgan Willis, who scored twice, made it 2-0 before freshman forward Julia Kipperman and Underhill tallied goals to make it 4-0.
Old Rochester, however, broke junior goalie Olivia Avellar’s shutout bid with 4:54 left in the game.
The girls basketball team lost 44-29 at Cape Cod Academy on Friday night to fall to 5-13 overall. The Warriors hosted Falmouth High School in their penultimate game on Tuesday.
Nauset boys basketball, sitting at 46th in the MIAA Division 2 power rankings with a 9-7 record, was scheduled to play Falmouth in its final home game of the season on Tuesday.
