EASTHAM — The Nauset Warriors and Cape Cod Furies hockey teams swept the Codfish Cup with wins over Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School on Monday to cap off the week in Nauset High athletics.
The Warriors — who have yet to suffer back-to-back defeats this season — rebounded from a 6-2 loss to Barnstable on Jan. 11 with a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Dolphins at Charles Moore Arena to improve to 7-2 overall. Sophomore Logan Poulin of Truro scored the game-winning goal with 6:47 to go in the third period after Dennis-Yarmouth had erased a 2-0 deficit.
Seniors Dan Deering and Cam Connery had each scored goals to give Nauset a 2-0 lead after the opening period. But Dennis-Yarmouth struck back with a pair of goals in the second period before Senior center Logan Valine scored on the penalty kill to give Nauset a 3-2 lead.
The Dolphins wouldn’t go away easily. They tied the game 3-3 at the 7:42 mark of the third period. Poulin, however, scored 55 seconds later to put the Warriors ahead for good.
The Furies meanwhile dominated the Dolphin girls from start to finish in an 8-1 win, bouncing back from their own 3-2 defeat to Barnstable on Saturday. The hosts built a 6-0 lead after two periods of play before the Dennis-Yarmouth girls broke the shutout in the third period. The Furies tacked on two more insurance goals to lock up their second win over the Dolphins in the span of five days.
The Warriors boys hockey team was scheduled to travel to Falmouth High School on Wednesday, while the Furies were slated to host Falmouth.
The Nauset boys and girls swim teams maintained their unbeaten records with wins over Martha’s Vineyard on Dec. 12 at Willy’s Gym in Eastham. The boys — now 4-0 on the season — won 79-54, while the girls earned a convincing 72-38 victory. The girls are 3-0-1 this season.
Nauset girls basketball dropped a tough game 61-20 against Tantasqua Regional High School on Saturday afternoon to fall to 3-7. They’ve lost two straight since beating Cape Cod Academy on Jan. 3, halting a three-game skid.
The girls basketball team was in action Tuesday against Barnstable. The boys were scheduled to play at Barnstable — their first game since a Jan. 7 win over Plymouth North.
Nauset boys and girls indoor track had a meet against Barnstable at Wheaton College on Tuesday.
