EASTHAM — The Nauset boys hockey team kept its unbeaten start to the season going with a 6-3 win over Plymouth North on Saturday. It was a big win for freshman goalie Arthur Figueiredo of Brewster, who was making his first-ever varsity start. Logan Poulin of Truro tallied a pair of goals — his first non-hat-trick outing of the season — to go with an assist. The Warriors improved to 3-0 overall and have scored 23 goals in three games.
The Cape Cod Furies, the combined girls varsity team of players from Nauset, Cape Cod Tech, and Monomoy Regional High School, had one win and one tie during the week. The Furies defeated Nantucket 8-2 on Thursday before battling to a 1-1 stalemate at Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday. They sit at 2-0-1 early in the season.
Hockey Night in Boston News ranked the boys and girls teams eighth in the Division 3 and Division 1 polls respectively. Both teams were previously unranked.
Four of the eight goals scored by the Furies in the win over Nantucket were by freshmen. Their roster is laden with youth — 13 freshmen and two sophomores — while Emily Underhill is the lone senior.
The Nauset girls basketball team, meanwhile, dropped to 1-2 after letting a lead over Easthampton High slip away on Saturday. The Warriors, who trailed 38-36 entering the final frame, were outscored 17-3 in an eventual 55-39 loss.
Boys and girls indoor track and boys and girls basketball were all in action on Tuesday while wrestling headed to Somerset-Berkley on Wednesday. The Furies were slated to host Bishop Feehan High School.
