EASTHAM — Eight Nauset High varsity teams were in action over the past week, highlighted by cross country’s sweep of Canton High School on Thursday, Sept. 8, by both the girls and boys teams.
Will Crowell won the boys’ race with a time of 18:39, while Angela Diana paced the girls with a time of 25:05. The boys won by a score of 20-37, and the girls claimed a 21-34 victory.
Hunter Hunt, Malcolm Stewart, and Ethan Beer finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, for the boys. Ava Needel placed second, while Alyssa Hutchinson came in fourth, and Jill Parrot crossed the line sixth for the girls.
The Warriors girls soccer team, meanwhile, salvaged a 1-1 draw after falling behind to Pembroke High School, also on Thursday. Junior midfielder Olivia Avellar’s second-half goal canceled out the Titans’ early tally. The girls were scheduled to play at Martha’s Vineyard on Tuesday.
Nauset boys golf fell to Sandwich High, with the match played at Sandwich Hollows Golf Club. The team score was 241 for Sandwich, while Nauset posted 277. The Warriors were slated to play at Falmouth on Tuesday.
The Warriors boys soccer team improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Nantucket. Senior forward Nate Watring scored on either side of halftime, including the go-ahead goal just over a minute into the second half. The team was scheduled to host Martha’s Vineyard on Tuesday.
Nauset football struggled in its first outing of the fall, suffering a 27-0 defeat at Norwell High School in a nonconference game last Friday night.
Julia Kipperman scored Nauset field hockey’s lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Carver Middle High School on Friday afternoon. The freshman scored with 4:05 left in the third quarter, but Carver drew even with a goal in the fourth period. Nauset was to play at Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday.
Nauset volleyballers picked up their first win of the season with a convincing 3-0 sweep of Rising Tide on Friday but followed up with a 3-1 defeat at Sturgis West on Monday as their season mark fell to 1-2. The girls had a home match versus St. John Paul II on Wednesday.
