ORLEANS — The Orleans Firebirds split four games during the past week to bring their record to 9-9-2 on the season. They stand at third place in the Cape Cod Baseball League East Division.
Luke Keaschall, an infielder from Watsonville, Calif., went two for three at the plate with two RBIs in a win over Brewster. It was Keaschall’s second multi-hit game in a row after going three for four against Chatham. He hit .385 over the four-game stretch.
Right-hander Donye Evans from Lithonia, Ga. picked up his first win of the season against Chatham on June 3. Evans, who had four strikeouts against the Anglers, previously pitched seven innings in two starts, giving up just one earned run.
The Firebirds were scheduled to play the Brewster Whitecaps in a make-up game on Tuesday and then take on the Wareham Gatemen in an away game on Wednesday.
Orleans 6, Brewster 4
Orleans held off Brewster for the win at Stony Brook Field on June 30. The Firebirds put up two runs in the top of the 5th inning to take a 5-3 lead after Jack Bulger and Isaac Humphrey hit back-to-back RBI singles off Matthew Bedford. The Orleans bullpen then shut down Brewster, giving up just one run in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
Yarmouth-Dennis 4, Orleans 0
The Red Sox, in first place in the division, blanked the Firebirds on July 1 behind six scoreless innings pitched by right-hander Bryce Robison, who gave up just four hits. Kyle Carr allowed three hits in four innings for Orleans, but the bullpen relinquished three runs. Hunter Haas reached base with a double before being driven in two batters later to make it 2-0. Fernando Gonzalez then crossed home plate on a wild pitch and Caden Connor scored an unearned run in the top of the 8th inning for insurance.
Orleans 1, Chatham 0
Donye Evans pitched a gem to lead Orleans to victory over Chatham on July 3. The right-hander from Vanderbilt tossed five scoreless innings and gave up just two hits in the process. Cam Jones drove in Logan Beard with a single back to the pitcher to score the game’s only run in the 2nd inning. AJ Blubaugh, a reliever from Belleville, Ohio, recorded his fourth save of the season.
Chatham 7, Orleans 1
Chatham came back to defeat Orleans on July 4 after the bats woke up for the Anglers in the 4th inning. Noah Ledford hit a two-run home run to give Chatham a 2-1 lead before the hosts added runs in the 5th and 7th innings. The Anglers tacked on three more in the 8th when Marcus Brown drove in two runs with a single.
