EASTHAM — It’s been a grueling week for Dennis-Yarmouth, courtesy of the Nauset High Warriors. On Jan. 11, the Nauset boys and girls indoor track teams beat the Dolphins at a meet at Wheaton College, breezing by with final scores of 59-31 and 62-44, respectively. And on Monday, Jan. 17, the Nauset boys ice hockey team took home the 4th annual Codfish Cup, defeating the Dolphins 3-0. This victory brought the Warrior boys’ record to 8-2.
Later that evening, the Furies had their turn squaring off on the ice with the Dolphins. Just two minutes into the game, junior Emily Underhill shot a wrister, giving the Furies a 1-0 lead. That score held until near the end of regulation, when the Dolphins’ Hannah O’Dowd netted a late goal, launching the teams into a 4-on-4 overtime. The 1-1 tie stood, however, after the five minutes wrapped. The Furies, now 3-1-1 on the year, will square off with the Dolphins once more on Monday, Jan. 24.
On Jan. 12, the Warrior boys handily beat Barnstable, 4-1, and the Furies swept away Nantucket, 9-3, followed by another victory, 4-1, against the Mansfield-Oliver Ames-Foxboro co-op on Jan. 15.
On Jan. 13, the girls swim team was trumped by Nantucket, 59-111. But they also secured several more spots at States. Last week, Nina Mako qualified in the 100-meter butterfly, and since then she’s racked up three more events: the individual 200-meter medley, the 200 medley relay alongside Kaitlin Bohannon, Isabelle Hardwicke, and Brynn Morris, plus the 200 free-style relay with Bohannon, Morris, and Alexia Colella. The boys swim team, meanwhile, kept up a three-win streak, squeaking by with an 82-81 victory over Nantucket.
The girls basketball team lost to Tantasqua, 35-69. The next time the boys team is slated to play will be Friday, Jan. 21 — 11 days since their last game against Cape Cod Academy on Jan. 10.
