Driving down Depot Road in Truro, I saw ahead a small boxlike shape in the road.
Slowly pulling closer, I saw that it was a box turtle crossing the road. I angled my vehicle across the road and stopped. Then I stepped out of my car to assist the turtle’s progress in the direction she was headed. Traffic backed up on both sides of the road.
Mission accomplished.
As I returned to my car, I noted that there was a police car at the head of the line.
“Turtle,” I said to the officer behind the wheel.
“Thank you,” he responded.
Traffic proceeded. —Martha Ingrum, Eastham
