While away on vacation last month, I received a text from my neighbor saying that a hawk had managed to get trapped in our screened porch. My husband had witnessed the jaw-dropping spectacle of a hawk diving onto our patio, directly outside the screened porch, to capture a chipmunk. But it appeared that this hawk missed its target by about 10 feet and flew directly into — and through — the screen.
The hawk proceeded to make quite a commotion as it frantically tried to peck its way out, making holes in all of the screens and drawing the attention of my neighbor, who came to its rescue and opened the porch doors. The bird found its way out, leaving only feathers and hawk poop behind. —Stacey Scott, North Eastham
