Since my wife and I relocated to Eastham a few years ago we’ve enjoyed finding opportunities to meet other year-rounders. Recently we joined old friends at a Nauset Neighbors event where we met quite a few new folks.
My friend and I were seated talking when one of the hosts came up to introduce herself. “I’m so glad you’re here,” she said. “You’re such a good-looking couple!”
We hated to disappoint her, but we finally came clean. “Just friends,” we said.
It’s nice to know that we live in a place where being perceived as a gay couple gets you a special welcome as opposed to an exorcism.
Readers are invited to send their own mini-stories (word limit: 200) about funny, illuminating, only-on-the-Outer-Cape moments to [email protected] for consideration for “Incidentally.” We hope this will become a place for recording memorable snippets overheard at the grocery store, in a class, on the beach — all the places where our real lives are in full view.
