ORLEANS — The Orleans Firebirds swept the Falmouth Commodores in a doubleheader on Sunday, June 19 at Guv Fuller Field.
Orleans picked up a 3-2 win in the first game to end a three-game skid with losses to Brewster, Yarmouth-Dennis, and Bourne earlier in the week.
Nate Furman hit a two-run double down the third-base line in the top of the sixth inning to give the Firebirds a one-run lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. Kyle Carr and AJ Blubaugh then combined to shut down the Commodores.
The Firebirds made it two-for-two with a 3-1 win over Falmouth in the second game of the twin bill.
Orleans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game 2 after three innings, courtesy of Travis Honeyman, who drove in a run with a sacrifice.
Back-to-back doubles made the score 2-1, but Kevin Sim gave the Firebirds an insurance run with a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning to make it 3-1.
Shane Telfer and Chris Clark pitched two scoreless innings in relief to ice the victory for Orleans.
The Firebirds were scheduled to play Harwich Mariners on Tuesday and Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox on Wednesday this week.
