EASTHAM — The Nauset Regional High School football team took the field last Saturday, March 27, to play its first game in more than a year against the Falmouth Clippers in Falmouth. The final score was Falmouth 20, Nauset 7.
The Warriors’ offense got off to a good start, reaching the Clippers’ 29 yard line on the first drive of the game. But the team gave up the ball with an incomplete pass on fourth down and long.
The game was tied 7-7 in the first quarter after Warriors junior quarterback Riley Holmes rushed for a three-yard touchdown. But late in the quarter, the Clippers converted a trick play for a 47-yard touchdown to go up 14-7. That was the score at halftime, and Nauset never got the momentum back on their side.
The Clippers scored again in the second half to produce the final tally.
It was a disappointing start to a long-awaited season for the Warriors, but the team will try to right the ship when it takes on perennial rival Dennis-Yarmouth this Saturday.
