Saskia Maxwell Keller was awarded a master of music with distinction from the University of Edinburgh. The ceremony, held on Nov. 29, included graduates being tapped on the head by the university chancellor wielding John Knox’s cap, said to be sewn from the famous Calvinist’s breeches. From Scotland, musicology degree in hand, Saskia is now in Leipzig, doing research on the cello endpin. She says her studies have helped her develop artistic literacy, the privilege of knowing and playing what she called “this baffling instrument,” the cello. (Photo Nick Harbourne) —Teresa Parker
