The Nauset High School fall sports season is coming to an end as all Warriors teams have completed regular season and postseason action except for football (6-4), which will play its annual Thanksgiving Day game against the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins (7-3).
Here’s a wrap-up of how the remaining teams fared in their final games:
Boys soccer: The Warriors (19-1-2) suffered their first loss in more than two years on Monday, Nov. 17 when they fell 2-1 (on penalty kicks) to the Milford Scarlet Hawks (18-0-2) in the Division 2 south final at Milford High School. After regulation and two overtime periods the game remained tied at 1-1, so it came down to penalty kicks, with Nauset ultimately losing 5-4.
The Scarlet Hawks will face the Division 2 north champion Winchester Sachems (14-3-5) for the state championship at Worcester State on Saturday, Nov. 23.
The Warriors’ last loss came on Nov. 11, 2017 to the Oliver Ames Tigers in the south semifinals. Coincidentally, that game was also played at Milford High School.
The Warriors will not get the chance to defend their state championship this year but will have to wait until next season to get back to action. Seniors Jack Avellar, Spencer Rushnak, Sabastian Headrick, Laird Parker, Daryl Morris, Nick Norman, Derek Perry, and Shavar Champagnie will graduate this year.
Cheerleading: The Warriors placed fourth in the state at the Game Day State Championships at Shrewsbury High School on Monday, Nov. 17.
Girls cross country: The Warriors (9-0-2) placed ninth overall at the Division 2 All-State meet at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course on Sunday, Nov. 16.
Three Nauset runners were in the top 51. The team was led by senior Abby Farrell who placed 29th out of 176 finishers.
The team qualified for the All-State meet after placing fourth overall at the Eastern Mass Division 4 Championships on Nov. 9. The team finished first at the championships last season.
