Water Department
Spring 2023 Water Main
Flushing Schedule
To Provincetown Water System Customers in Provincetown and Truro
The Provincetown Water Department has scheduled the Spring Water Main Flushing Program to begin April 10, 2023, weather permitting. The program is expected to continue through April 21, 2023.
The purpose is two-fold:
- Minimize the build-up of mineral and other sediments that can affect water quality.
- Verify the operation of valves and fire hydrants.
Water main flushing will take place between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM Monday through Thursday and will begin within the PROVINCETOWN portion of the system. It is expected that TRURO will begin April 18th, with Route 6 nearest the Central School taking place around April 20th. The Water Department will have a daily schedule and list of the streets to be flushed each day for customers who wish to call in to find out about their place of residence or business.
This flushing exercise will cause varying degrees of discolored water and a reduction in water pressure. Any discoloration of the water will be temporary and is not harmful. The Department suggests all customers restrict water usage – especially hot water – during the time of flushing to minimize any potential negative impacts, such as staining of plumbing fixtures and laundry. This flushing program is an essential component of the Town’s comprehensive approach for improving the quality of water for all of its customers. The Provincetown Water Department appreciates your patience as we work to improve the quality of the drinking water we provide to the residents and businesses in Provincetown and Truro. Please call the Water Department at 508-487-7060 if you have any concerns or questions.
