The Provincetown Independent has never published fiction, but we’re thinking about it.
We regularly publish poems (email submissions to [email protected]). What about short stories — specifically flash fiction (that is, extremely short stories)? Flash fiction can be as short as a few paragraphs or even a single sentence. For example, read George Saunders’s very short story, “Sticks,” originally published in Harper’s magazine in 1995 and then included in Saunders’s 2013 book of stories, Tenth of December.
To fit in our pages, we ask for submissions of up to 750 words — one to three typed pages, double-spaced. Any topic (fit to print) is welcome. Questions and editorial suggestions will be raised and discussed with writers.
Email your submissions as Word documents in Times New Roman 12-point type to [email protected]. Include your full name, complete home address, and a telephone number where you can be reached. If your story has appeared elsewhere, supply complete information about previous publication with permission from the publisher if necessary. Editorial assistant Eve Samaha will let you know if your story has been accepted.
