Jessica Vosk at the Art House
The Art House, 214 Commercial St. in Provincetown, welcomes vocalist Jessica Vosk for two nights: Friday, Dec. 31 and Saturday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. Pianist Seth Rudetsky will accompany Vosk, who made her Carnegie Hall solo debut this past fall. She’s best known for starring as Elphaba in Wicked. Other Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Finding Neverland, and The Bridges of Madison County. She also starred as Anita in the San Francisco Symphony’s production of West Side Story. Her debut solo album, Wild and Free, was released in 2018. Proof of vaccination and masks required. Storytime With Harbor Stage
Cozy up with “Holiday Audio Stories,” read by members of Harbor Stage Company. The stories include an excerpt from James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small, read by Stacy Fischer; “A Serious Talk” by Raymond Carver, read by Robert Kropf; “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry, read by Brenda Withers; and “The Osbornes’ Christmas” by Lucy Montgomery, read by Jonathan Fielding. Provincetown Film Art Series Continues
The Provincetown Film Art Series, hosted and curated by Howard Karren, with the theme “Love and Death.” Starting out the new Year is Brick, showing on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. at Waters Edge Cinema, 237 Commercial St. in Provincetown. The film — the 2005 directing debut of Rian Johnson, who would go on to make Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi — chronicles teenage loner Brendan Frye, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who investigates the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Intimate Paintings at William Scott Gallery
“Featured Gallery Artists,” running from Friday, Dec. 31through Sunday, Jan. 2 at William Scott Gallery, 439 Commercial St. in Provincetown, straddles the old and new year. Castle Hill’s Yellow Chair Salon
Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, in collaboration with M. David & Co., presents the winter 2022 session of the Yellow Chair Salon. The eight sessions run Monday, Jan. 3 through March 31.
Artist, curator, and educator Michael David will lead the 15-week virtual residency. It’s envisioned as a collaboration between teacher, residents, guest artists, and critics. Participants, limited to 48, will meet online in “salons” of six, grouped by discipline. Each two-hour salon will allow participants the opportunity to show and critique work, with the option of auditing other salons. Residents will show in a group exhibition at M. David & Co. Gallery in Brooklyn, N.Y. All levels and media welcome. Registration is $725 at castlehill.org.
