J. Austin Pinkham Jr. of Harwich died on May 2, 2020, at Cape Cod Hospital following years of multiple health issues. He was 89.
J. was born on Dec. 12, 1930, to J. Austin Pinkham Sr. and Maude Pinkham. In the 1960s he moved to Cape Cod from Quincy.
He loved Wellfleet especially and became acquainted with local folks and summer friends. He married Paula Ramsdell in the early 1970s, and lived at her Wellfleet home, the “Rondezvous Bank Street,” at 25 Bank St. He worked at Cape Cod Ready Mix and the Wellfleet Transfer Station, and in later years at Nickerson Service Station in Eastham.
After Paula’s death, J. married a second time. He and his second wife, Ann Taylor, celebrated 32 years of marriage this past Valentine’s Day.
J. was a kind and generous man who adored his family and friends.
Many of his favorite times were spent camping with those he loved. He was an avid New England Patriots fan, a sports fisherman, an RV enthusiast, and a Florida snowbird.
He leaves his wife, Ann Florence Pinkham, and her children: Dove; Fawn (also known as Tammy) and boyfriend Paul; and Serri (also known as Star). He was predeceased by his wife’s son, Bear.
He is also survived by Paula’s children, Michael Ramsdell and Donna DeVasto. David and Brian Ramsdell predeceased him.
He leaves grandchildren James, Elizabeth, Andrew, Michael, Emily, Amy, and Hanna; their spouses; and many great-grandchildren.
The family extends special thanks to J.’s best friend, Tom Lenehan, and wife Lynne.
Donations can be made in J.’s memory to a charitable foundation of the donor’s choice. Services will be held at a date to be announced.
