Marie Carnevale “Ann” Rogers, 75, a compassionate noni, mother, teacher, and friend, died on May 13, 2020 at her home in Eastham after managing cancer for over 15 years.
Born and raised in Windsor Locks, Conn., to Francesca Josephina Marinone and Eusebio Carnevale, Ann received an associate’s degree in medical secretary science at Becker Junior College. While employed at Boston’s Children’s Hospital, a supervisor asked her to entertain the children in the waiting room because he noticed her gift with children.
While raising her own kids, she earned an additional associate’s degree at Cape Cod Community College and a bachelor of science in education from Bridgewater State College. She later got a master’s degree in curriculum development from Lesley University as a single working mother.
Ann taught first grade at Veterans Memorial Elementary School in Provincetown for 28 years and served an additional 10 years as a substitute at Eastham Elementary School and other Nauset district schools. Teaching children to read and watching their eyes light up when they figured something out for themselves were among her greatest joys.
She loved gardening, playing with her grandchildren, entertaining, and cooking meals for family and friends. When asked what makes someone a success, her response was “being kind.”
She leaves two sons, William N. Rogers III and wife, Christina, of Hoover, Alabama, and Charles N. Rogers II of West Dennis; a daughter, Kimberly Rogers, and husband Patrick Regan of Cambridge; grandchildren Conor Regan and Kingston, Scotland, and Jameson Rogers; and step-grandchildren Emily Regan and Grace Blackwell.
A memorial service will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes in Wellfleet and a memorial and burial will take place at St. Mary’s Church in Windsor Locks, Conn., all at a date to be announced. In the interim, the family plans to host an online celebration of Ann’s life.
