Charles Gibbs “Charlie” Munroe, 77, of Wellfleet, died on April 29, 2020, after a battle with cancer.
He was born on March 12, 1943, at Cape Cod Hospital and was predeceased by his father, Joseph Gibbs Munroe, and his mother, Edith (Ellis) Rischitelli.
Charlie grew up at his grandparents’ home on Paines Creek Road in Brewster, where he had an idyllic childhood roaming Paines Creek and Wing Island.
After graduating from Dennis-Yarmouth High School, Class of 1962, Charlie joined the U.S. Marines. Upon returning to his beloved Cape Cod he started working as an apprentice electrician to support his budding family. Charlie started his own business, Charles G. Munroe Electrician, which he ran for over 50 years.
Charlie was an avid sports fan. In high school he was on the football and track teams. Later he took up racquetball and was president of the Mass. Racquetball Association for many years. Pickleball was his latest passion. He had a wonderful Cape Cod wit and made many friends wherever he went.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Ruth Bishop of Wellfleet; his three children, Leanne Munroe of Brewster, William and wife Tonia Munroe of Brewster, and David and wife Maureen Munroe of West Yarmouth; his grandchildren, Ashla Munroe, Christopher Rugg, Casey Pimental, Cody Pimental, Cameron Munroe, and Tayler Munroe; and great-grandchildren Isabell and Declan.
He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Rischitelli of Florida, sister Karen Rischitelli of South Dennis, nephew Peter Rischitelli, and stepsons Scott and Eric Moore.
Per Charlie’s request, no services will be held. His ashes were scattered at Paines Creek. In memory of Charlie, donations may be made to the Yarmouth Police Foundation, P.O. Box 701, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675, or to SemperFi & Americas Fund at semperfifund.org.
