$250,000 Energy Grant
The state awarded Truro a $250,000 grant for energy conservation improvements at Truro Central School as part of the Mass. Dept. of Energy Resources Green Communities program, according to an Aug. 18 press release from the agency.
About $231,000 will go toward the school’s heat pump system, and the rest will go toward other improvements, according to an Aug. 12 letter from the agency to Town Manager Kelly Clark. The grant can be used over several fiscal years.
“The Truro Central School is the largest single source of municipal greenhouse gas emissions in the town” and is therefore “the primary focus of the town’s decarbonization efforts,” according to the 2024 Truro Municipal Decarbonization Roadmap, a framework developed as part of Truro’s goal to eliminate the use of fossil fuels on-site by 2050.
Heat pump technology will reduce the amount of carbon released by heating, ventilating, and air conditioning the school and will be more energy efficient and save the town money as well, the roadmap says. —Lauren Hakimi
