DeVasto Joins Health Board
The select board on Aug. 19 voted unanimously to appoint its former member Michael DeVasto to a term on the board of health ending on June 30, 2027. He will fill one of the board’s two vacant positions.
In his application, DeVasto highlighted his six years on the select board, state Shellfish Advisory Panel membership, and 15 years in aquaculture as relevant experience as well as “extensive knowledge of wastewater planning and Mass. DEP Title V regulations.”
DeVasto has been a vocal critic of local septic regulations that were amended in January, saying they are inequitable and discourage homeowners from building additions and ADUs.
His amendments to the town’s Targeted Watershed Management Plan focused on a targeted approach to septic upgrades rather than reliance on circumstantial triggers and accounting for an expanded sewer district.
Six households are scheduled to request exemptions to septic system upgrade rules at the health board’s next meeting.
